news The Sight Of Silence

ArtOne bagged yet another Best Book Design award from the Manila Critics Circle
for the book Silence in 2003. The Manila Critics Circle is a non-stock, non-profit
organization made up of literary critics and columnists whose goal is to recognize
exemplary books in different categories, among many other functions.

Silence is a collaborative effort of sociologist and writer Randy David, photographer
and business mogul Jaime Zobel, and award-winning graphic artist and
ArtOne Creative Director Francisco ‘Dopy’ Doplon. The book is a meditative
exploration of the power of silence – from the space between notes in a melody to
the silence of unanswered questions – and how it communicates to certain
extraordinary individuals. It is basically a compilation of different stories from
all walks of life, each bursting with profound revelations. Randy David told each
person’s tale, Don Jaime provided the visual representations, and Dopy
Doplon subtly wove everything together seamlessly in a
deftly executed artwork using the book as a medium.

Figaro Brews Us a Delectable Literary Concoction

The Manila Critics Circle also doled out an award to ArtOne for Kape:
A Philippine Coffee Cookbook. Granted in 2003, Kape won the National Book Award.
Published by Anvil, this playful but informative recipe book is the brainchild of the
inevitable marriage of two coffee-lovers: Chit Juan, President and CEO of
Figaro Coffee Company and Vicky-Veloso Barrera, children’s book and cookbook author.
Enterprisingly, it explores the different ways to prepare coffee and recipes for every
imaginable saccharine sensation – from breads to pastries to cookies – you can sink
your teeth in. This is an indiscriminate handy book for those who want to enjoy
their coffee during breakfast, lunch, a late afternoon snack, and even after dinner.
In addition, it provides a short history of homegrown coffee beans so
that readers everywhere can better appreciate each cupful they take.

ArtOne’s Dopy Doplon provided the design while Francis Abraham was in charge of
photography. The rich warm tones and mouth-watering illustrations made the book a
certifiable sensory pleasure. ArtOne made sure that it was not just readable, but edible as well.

Shangri-la’s Tall Tale

The Kuok Group of Companies, developers of The Enterprise Center in the Philippines,
the Shangri-la Hotels and other luxury establishments located all over Asia,
introduces a grand idea: why spend just a few nights in a hotel when you can live in one?
Thus, the rise of The Shang Grand Tower – more than just condominium units,
it is a haven strategically located at the center of Makati. Realty firms KPPI Realty
Corporation and Edsa Properties Holdings, Inc. is responsible for this fusion of the
luxury of the Shang Hotels and the comforts of the home.

ArtOne is proud to announce that is has won the bid for creating the corporate look for
The Shang Grand Tower. This means that ArtOne is responsible for designing the logo
and producing the collaterals which include: the marketing kit, brochures, fliers,
invitations, and postcards. We are proud to take on the challenge of this project of
fashioning every intricate detail that communicates the prestige and luxury of the
Shangri-la Corporation.

Contributions For A Cause

We at ArtOne show our support to three of our country’s non-stock, non-profit
organizations in our own little way by designing logos for the Philippine
Philharmonic Orchestra and Ayala Foundation’s Ayala Cares and Philippine Heritage Library.

For the country’s premiere national Orchestra, ArtOne created a blue and red logo using
the initials PPO. The colors signify the national colors while the design incorporates
the eighth note to represent the scores of pieces that the Philippine Philharmonic
Orchestra has performed throughout the years. The soft curves of the letters show the
aqueous cadence of music created by this 62-piece orchestra.

A division of the Ayala Foundation, the Filipinas Heritage Library holds traditional texts and
electronic media on Philippine history, art, language, religion and social sciences.
ArtOne incorporated two simple strokes to represent the lateral view of an open book into
the library’s name. This image denotes the Library’s mission of preserving and promoting
the country’s culture predominantly through written and traditional texts, among many
other forms of media.

Ayala Cares is the official newsletter of the Ayala Foundation. Serving as the eyes and
ears of the organization, it in turn promotes awareness on the different projects of this
socio-cultural development arm of the Ayala Group of Companies. ArtOne adopted
an informal font, almost mimicking that of someone’s handwriting. Flourishing from the
letter A is a heart, equally modest in design. In contrast to the formal identity one tends
to affiliate with the Ayala Corporation, this logo reflects its more personal character,
that which heeds the diverse and complex needs of the Filipino.
